Flannery, M., has been notified she has received funding from the Wilmot Cancer Institute pilot grants, Marie’s study is entitled  “Patient Prioritized Symptom Relief: Testing a novel intervention for individuals with advanced cancer and multiple symptoms.”

Mary Tantillo has been award the Hilda & Preston Davis Foundation grant. “ Reconnecting for Recovery: A Relational /Motivational Multifamily Therapy Group for Young Adults with Anorexia Nervosa Program
Multifamily Therapy Group (MFTG) (“Reconnecting for Recovery”) intervention for young adults with Anorexia Nervosa.  Multifamily Therapy Group maximizes the resources, strengths, and adaptive coping strategies of a number of patients and their family members (including "family of choice members" as defined by the patients) as they work with the therapist to eliminate Anorexia Nervosa symptoms and promote ongoing recovery.

Sally Norton was installed as the Independence Chair in Nursing and Palliative Care. The Independence Foundation supports a senior nursing scientist dedicated to geriatric nursing research and education including, but not limited to, sustained research activities; mentoring junior faculty and nursing; and consulting with the community to improve geriatric nursing.

Jim McMahon received a notice of award from the National Institute of Mental Health to continue his HIV research, “ Formative research on PrEP provision in U.S. HIV-serodiscordant couples”

Hyekyun Rhee has received a notice of award from the National Institute of Nursing Research, for her Asthma study, “Peer-led Asthma Self-Management Program for Adolescents (PLASMA): A Multi-site study” Focus: The study will evaluate the effectiveness and generalizability of a peer-led asthma self-management program for adolescents.  Particularly, the study will focus on assessing the impact of the program on quality of life, asthma control and healthcare utilization in inner city adolescents in Buffalo NY, Baltimore MD, & Memphis TN. 

Vankee( Feng) Lin has received notification from the Alzheimer's Association New Investigator Grant funding for her study “Differentiating Neurophysiological Stress Regulation in Alzheimer Clinical Stages”  Focus: Examines how the brain’s ability to regulate the stress response may become altered during the Alzheimer’s disease process.

Orlando Harris has been invited to participate in a meeting with the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors, the CDC and HRSA in Washington, DC in September 2014 to launch the new Center for Engaging Black MSM Across the Care Continuum. This new center will focus on improving the capacity of providers to diagnose, link and retain Black MSM into clinical care – with special attention to adolescents and young adults.

Harriet Kitzman is featured in the Notes on Nursing monthly eNewsletter for Friends of the University of Rochester School of Nursing. Harriet has led two decades worth of research on the impact of nurse home visitation on first-time mothers and children. The study was published July 7 in JAMA Pediatrics.

Honors and Awards

Eileen M. Sullivan-Marx, PhD, RN, FAAN, graduate of URSON MS in Primary Care Program has been named recipient of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) Doris Schwartz Gerontological Nursing Research Award in recognition of outstanding and sustained contribution to geriatric nursing research. Dr. Sullivan-Marx is currently dean of the New York University College of Nursing.

Wharton, M.J. was presented the Dr. Mark A. Colomb Emerging Young Leader Award for outstanding contributions in research and social justice in Black gay men’s communities. The award was presented by National AIDS Education Services for Minorities (NAESM) Inc., on January 17, 2014 at the 2014 National African American MSM Leadership Conference on HIV/AIDS and Other Health Disparities, Orlando, FL.
