Awards

Dianne Morrison-Beedy, PhD, WHNP-BC, FNAP, FAAN has been selected to receive a D-CFAR pilot award as investigator for a study entitled: Community adults and parents response to HIV intervention for girls 12-15. 

Jeanne Grace, PhD, RN, WHNP has been selected for a Fulbright Specialists grant (international academic exchange program founded in 1946 by the U.S. Government) in Public/Global Health at Mahidol University, Thailand for January – February, 2009.  While in Thailand, Jeanne will provide classroom education and workshops about evidence-based practice in nursing for faculty members, as well as consultancy in developing a center for evidence-based practice in nursing.

Dianne Morrison-Beedy, PhD, RN, FAAN, FNAP, WHNP was inducted into the Fellowship of the American Academy of Nursing on November 8.

LaRon Nelson has been honored by the Rochester Business Journal for civic involvement by being nominated as a young leader. The honor is entitled “40 Under 40.”

Awards

Mary Wilde, PhD, RN and Co-Investigators James McMahon, PhD, and Robert Mayer, MD have been awarded an RO1 from the NINR for the project: Self Management of Urine Flow in Long-Term Urinary Catheter Users.

PI: Helena Temkin-Greener, PhD, Co-Investigators: Sally Norton, PhD, RN; Timothy Quill, MD; Dana Mukamel, PhD, (UC-Irvine); and Sharon-Lise Teresa Normand, PhD, (Harvard), have been awarded an RO1 for the project: End-of-Life Quality of Care in Nursing Homes.

Jane Tuttle, Ph.D., FNP, PNP, is this year's recipient of the Nancy J. Macintyre, FNP, Ph.D., NP of the Year award. The presentation was made at the Banquet & Awards Program in Verona, NY on September 27.

Christina Koulouglioti, PhD, has been notified that she will receive the New York State Nurses Association Novice Researcher Award.

Ponrathi Athilingam, PhD, ACNP, was announced as winner of the Nursing Investigator Award at the Heart Failure Society of America, 12th Scientific Conference in Toronto, Canada on September 22 for her presentation entitled Cognitive Assessment may be an Appropriate Tool to Assess Cognitive Dysfunction in Heart Failure. Ying Xue, D.N.Sc., R.N., is one of 15 junior faculty nationwide to receive an inaugural Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholar (NFS) award.

Bethel A. Powers, PhD, RN has been notified of her Promotion to the Editorial Advisory Board ot the Journal of Gerontological Nursing.

Susan E. Lowey, MSN has received notice of an NRSA award from the National Institute of Nursing Research. Project title: Perspectives of People with Non-Cancer Illnesses about Care at the End of Life. Sally Norton, PhD is sponsor for Susan Lowey's award.

The University of Rochester School of Nursing has been awarded $150,000 from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation New Careers in Nursing Scholarship Program (Kathy Rideout,Project Director). Fifteen nursing students will receive $10,000 in support as they enter into accelerated programs during the 2009-2010 academic year. Daryl L. Sharp, PhD, APRN, BC, FNAP has received notice of an award from the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) for Best Practices in the Treatment of Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder in a community-based program. The awards program will be held during the annual conference in Minneapolis in October, 2008.
