UR School of Nursing to Host Meliora Weekend Events

From reunions with friends and colleagues to learning opportunities, concerts, and comedians, there’s something for everyone at Meliora Weekend. Here at the UR School of Nursing, we offer a few events designed for alumni, faculty, and staff. Learn more about these events below, and don’t forget to register for Meliora Weekend before online registration closes Friday, Sept. 30 at 12 p.m.

  • The 58th Annual Clare Dennison Lecture: Friday, Oct. 7 from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

Distinguished alumna Cynthia A. Connolly ’87N (MS), PhD, RN, FAAN will present this year’s Clare Dennison Lecture, titled: “Parents, Practitioners, and Pills: The Essential Role of History in Pediatric Pharmaceutical Policy in the United States in the Twentieth Century.”

Connolly is an associate professor of nursing at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, where she is one of four faculty directors at The Field Center for Children’s Policy, Practice and Research. Her scholarly work has focused on analyzing the forces that have shaped children’s health care delivery and family policy in the United States.

  • Alumni Luncheon: Friday, Oct. 7 from 12-1:30 p.m.

Reunite with fellow alumni and connect with colleagues in the nursing profession at this buffet luncheon with UR School of Nursing Dean and University of Rochester Medical Center Vice President Kathy Rideout, EdD, PPCNP-BC, FNAP as well as program directors, faculty, and staff.

  • National Institutes of Health Simulcast: Friday, Oct. 7 from 3:45-5 p.m.

The School of Nursing will be hosting a simulcast of a conversation with National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Francis S. Collins, who will be at the University for Meliora Weekend.

The talk, titled, “Exceptional Opportunities in Biomedical Research,” will examine recent advances in fundamental knowledge about biology—and highlight the ways in which that knowledge is serving to improve human health. Topics may include the Precision Medicine Initiative, the Cancer Moonshot, the human microbiome, and vaccine development.
